Teeth and a Joseph quote

I hope to get the blog fully updated in the very near future. But for now, I need to record that Maddie is up to 4 teeth! Her left eye tooth cut on 7/9, and her left front finally broke through, barely, today!

Joseph is loving the new house and the neighborhood. We are already starting to make friends! He has blossomed into quite the conversationalist, and frequently talks about rescuing us from monsters, or sword fighting pirates. Monsters and pirates are very big deals around our house right now.

It's definitely challenging trying to stay calm with a rambunctious 3 year old and 10 month old. Joseph is starting to learn that when he has accidents, mommy is disappointed in him, which is different than when I am happy he listened to me and behaved well, or mad at him for "bonking" his sister in the head.

A few nights ago, Joseph was banging his spoon on his plate, like he frequently does. As always, I had been telling him to stop, but it didn't happen. I went upstairs to change Maddie's diaper, and heard Joseph come bounding up the stairs yelling for me. "Mom! Mom! It broke!"

"Joseph, what broke?"

"The plate, mommy! It broke!"

"How did it break, Joseph?"

"I was doing this...(he starts swinging his arm frantically, indicating he was banging his spoon on the plate) and it just went... Crack! Come see, mommy"

So after verifying that, yes, the plate was broken into 3 size able pieces and explaining that, no, daddy was not going to be able to fix it, Joseph apologized. We headed off for the gym, and during the 45 minutes he was at child watch, Joseph had an accident. Exasperated, i took the kids to the van and promptly got the kids buckled into their seats. During the 4 minutes it takes to get home, we had another classic  conversation:

"Mom, are you mad?"
"No Joseph, I'm disappointed with you."
"Because I broke the plate? "
"We'll, I'm mad that you broke the plate, but I am disappointed that you didn't tell someone you had to go to the bathroom and had an accident instead."

Silence as he ponders this for a moment.

"Mom, I love you."

"I love you too, Joseph."
"It makes you happy when I say I love you, right?"
"Yes it makes me very happy."

"So now you are happy at me, and not disappointed any more, right?"

This kid is definitely learning how to try and work his momma!
