Boogers

I am only a little surprised to be writing this on the blog, but since it is supposed to be a place to compile things I want to remember someday, I figure it would also be a good place to write down the stories that will embarrass the heck out of the kids too. Like this one. :)

Maddie is a typical second kid, in that she will do just about anything she sees Joseph doing. Including picking her nose. Lately, though, she has decided it is not only funny to pick the boogers out, but to show us that she's doing it, and then shove said booger-covered finger in her mouth. Yes, our sweet little Maddie not only eats her boogers, but grins and giggles when she does it. I told her to stop again today, and that someday she would be mortified when I told her about her tendencies when she was a little girl. She licked her finger, and with a sweet grin just looked at me and said, "nah!"

I told you so, little Maddie Rose!

Riss Lake Fishing Day

During the first weekend of August, mom and Gary came over to take the kids down to the marina for the annual kids' fishing day. I knew I wasn't going to be able to keep a good handle on each of them while trying to deal with catching fish, too, so I a very glad when they decided to come!

Maddie and Nana caught the first fish!

Within a few minutes, Joseph caught one as well. We were down at the docks early enough that the fish were biting and each kid caught a few fish! They were quite excited.

The fishing club also sponsored a free pizza lunch with ice cream treats, and then a water balloon fight between the kids and adults.

Joseph loved every minute of the day and is looking forward to doing it again.

Joseph's First Day of Pre-K

Joseph's first day of Pre-K was yesterday and he did great! This year he was much more comfortable with everything and was excited to head back to school.

Maddie was excited to smile for photos too, and since she got in them last year, it'll be a first day tradition.
We also had to add one with dad while he was actually home for a few minutes.
I had mentioned taking Molly for a walk after dropping Joseph off, so Molly knew something fun was going to happen. And she wouldn't let the kids out of her sight. We prompted her to sit next to them and she was happy to pose for a picture.
Joseph has Mrs. Heinrickson M/W/F mornings at Sunbeams preschool. His new classroom is right next door to his from last year.

Maddie did great dropping him off and didn't complain at all. A few hugs and we were off for our morning walk/run.

Joseph was being silly trying to stick his good behavior sticker to his eye, and practically ran out the door so I couldn't get another good picture.

We said goodbye to Mrs. H and headed to Culvers for a fun first day lunch. He had a great day and told me all about what he did, so we are looking forward to Wednesday!

Funny kid

This afternoon I let the kids watch a movie in the van on the way to the gym. Not an unusual occurrence, especially when I just want a few minutes of quiet. But when we pulled in and I turned the van off, Joseph said "mom, thanks for letting us watch a movie on the short trip to the gym. "

Ahh, hearing those unprompted words made my heart happy, so I turned to smile at him and tell him how happy it made me to hear that.

I got out of the car, walked around to the other side to get him and Maddie out, when he followed up with, "you know what, Mom? Santa's always watching ."

I tried not to laugh as I agreed with him!

Playing in St Louis

This past week the kids and I went to St Louis to go wedding dress shopping with Jen, attend a baby shower and hang out with family. I feel like I didn't end up spending too much time playing and doing fun things with the kids because we were so busy, so instead of heading home immediately after the baby shower, I opted to stay until Monday afternoon.

Ashley and her kids met us at Creation Station for an hour of playtime. Maddie got hurt right on the way in, but quickly recovered and had a lot of fun.

Joseph loves their dress up options and spent half the time as an astronaut and the rest as the fire chief.
The kids were apparently worn out and fussy as they both napped a while ok the way home later that day. It was a fun, crazy trip to St. Louis. Next time we see everyone it will be for Maddie's birthday, which seems hard to believe!

Bathtime silliness

The kids were being silly at bathtime so I asked them to make some faces for me. These are Maddie's happy, silly, sad and kiss faces, as prompted.
Joseph wanted in, so here are his happy, stink, surprised and the obligatory "monster", although it is certainly different than what he usually does.
Then some sweet kisses. Love these two little kids!
