Fire Station Visit

Saturday, October 11 was the annual Fairmount Township Fire Station Open House. We've been the past couple of years, but this year we brought along some neighborhood friends at the last minute. All of the kids were excited and I think having friends to play with made it that much more fun.

We got there a few minutes after it started, and opted to let the kids ride in the fire truck right away, before the line got too long.

Then the boys headed in to ride the mini fire truck and shoot out the "house fire."

The big highlight were the two large bounce houses set up outside. All 4 kids played in them for a really long time!

Eventually Joseph and Luke decided they wanted to wait for a balloon animal. Maddie and Dane weren't about to wait in a long line patiently, so they kept playing until it was almost their turn.

We took a few more rides in the fire truck so each kid could get a chance to ride up front once. I love that they actually take the kids out for rides- lots of fire stations will let the kids play around inside, but this is the only place that lets them ride.

The littles were definitely starting to wear out, and we had to get them home before naps. It was a struggle keeping them awake all the way back, but we managed. They all had so much fun and are asking when they can go back for more!

Umbrellas

The kids love umbrellas but rarely get to use them. Or use them appropriately. Early October was crazy rainy so the umbrellas came out frequently and they had lots of fun, although Maddie could still use some practice!

More pumpkin fun

On Sunday, October 5, I ran in the 3rd annual Bringinf Up The Rear 5k. I had planned on running solo, but at the last minute Joseph decided he wanted to run too. Which meant of course Maddie wanted to come along.

Joseph did great for the first mile and a bit, only stopping for a quick water break and to shed some layers. But after about 1.3 miles, he decided he was finished and wanted to ride. With Maddie. In the single stroller. No PR for me! But that's ok, I enjoy being able to involve the kids in some races so they have fun and see why Joe and I do it.

After the pancake breakfast that is a part of the race, we decided to go pumpkin picking. Since we didn't have a lot of time, I wanted to check out a place a bit closer to our house and that I thought has less "extra stuff" to do. We picked Pumpkins, Etc and it was perfect!

They breed kittens that wander the farm and Maddie fell in love. Joseph was intrigued but less crazy about them. Luckily our kids haven't entered the phase of "can we take them home with us, please!!!" So it wasn't too painful!

Joe didn't mind the time getting to play with kittens, either. Seemed right at home!

Eventually we were able to move the kids away to take a quick picture and pick out a few pumpkins.

The haul-not too shabby! We will definitely be back next year!
